South Kensington
Carbon Literacy® equips individuals, communities, and organisations with the knowledge and skills to take meaningful climate action and support the transition to a low-carbon future. Developed by the Carbon Literacy Project and recognised as a globally unique initiative by the UN at COP21, the training empowers participants to make informed choices in both professional and personal contexts.
Since 2025, more than 130 staff from 17 institutions had completed Carbon Literacy training, with 14 people also upskilled to become Carbon Literacy trainers themselves. These people are now cascading learning within their own organisations and across the neighbourhood, creating a growing network of climate champions across South Kensington's cultural, educational and heritage institutions.
Post-training feedback shows that 100% of respondents agree that climate change is relevant to them and that they have an individual role in tackling it, while 95% felt more confident in identifying actions to reduce their personal and organisational carbon impact. The opportunity to learn in a mixed cohort is also consistently identified as one of the main benefits of training through South Ken ZEN+.
One participant said:
The training was incredibly valuable - hearing what organisations are doing was really motivating, and being in the room together helped to soften the weight of the facts. It created a real sense of 'we're all in this together'. By the end I felt really empowered to take action in my own way.
Through this programme, South Ken ZEN+ is helping embed low-carbon thinking at every level of its partner institutions - from day-to-day operational decisions to longer-term strategic planning - creating a lasting ripple-effect across the district.
The training is offered free of charge to staff of members of the Exhibition Road Cultural Group. Sign up and find the dates here.
